Osseous Surgery

May 2 • 1 minute read

At dental cleanings periodontal pockets are measured in millimeters.  If these pockets measure deeper than 5mm it can be difficult for the patient to keep the area hygienic with flossing and brushing alone. Osseous surgery is a periodontal procedure to reduce pocket depths around teeth where deeper bacteria is harbored.  If this bacteria is not removed, the gum and bone surrounding the tooth can be compromised.  This procedure is usually performed by a periodontist who treats the area and recountours the bone in order to make it easier for the patient to care for at home.
