Candy and Your Teeth

While candies can be a fun treat, it is important to know how they can impact your oral health. Candies with high amounts of sugars and carbohydrates can interact with bacteria in the mouth and form acids that attack tooth enamel. Repeated exposure to these acids can eventually lead to tooth decay. Hard candies, lollipops, and sticky treats tend to linger longer in the mouth, thus, increasing exposure to sugars and acids. Sour candies can also erode enamel quickly due to their acidity. Limiting frequency and quantity of candy consumption reduces the exposure of teeth to sugars and acids. Additionally, practicing good oral hygiene helps reduce the risk of dental issues.
